Twitter has announced plans to start targeting keywords in their ads. According to their new blog -
Until today, the content of Tweets has only been one factor among many in shaping the interest graph. Today, it becomes a first-class citizen. We're excited to roll out the newest feature on our ad platform, keyword targeting in timelines, available today in all languages and markets where Twitter Ads are supported.
This will allow marketers to finely tune their audience on Twitter, and may be an important milestone for revenue boosts to Twitter. Previously, Promoted Tweets have been very popular, but could only be displayed in Users twitter feeds depending on their interests.
Twitter relies heavily on revenue from advertising to develop its product, so this could signal a significant change in the way that the micro blogging system operates.
